The Emirate of Dubai has approved the appointment of 22 chief artificial intelligence officers across key government departments, tasked with creating a visionary strategy for this technology’s future. Hamdan bin Mohammed, the Sheikh and Crown Prince of Dubai, stated that leveraging artificial intelligence is essential to position Dubai as a global leader in high-tech utilization.

The AI officers will serve in significant government entities: Dubai Police, the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority, the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, and the Department of Economy and Tourism.

Accelerating AI Development in Dubai

“Accelerating the development of artificial intelligence, its tools, and applications is a key pillar of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s vision to position Dubai as a global hub for the development and implementation of AI solutions,” stated the emirate's authorities.

Dubai, along with the rest of the United Arab Emirates, has promoted the use of AI for more agile and efficient governance. Last year, Sheikh Hamdan launched the Dubai AI Center at Emirates Towers. This center trains over a thousand employees from 30 government entities to use generative AI for creating images, videos, audio, texts, and 3D models. The center also plans to launch dozens of pilot projects to enhance government services, increase government employee productivity, and support over 20 national and global advanced technology startups.

UAE's Commitment to AI Education

Since 2017, the United Arab Emirates has appointed a Minister of Artificial Intelligence, and since 2020, it has hosted the world's first AI University, "Mohamed bin Zayed" in Abu Dhabi.

This year will see the graduation of the first group of students, poised to play a crucial role in the country’s development. "They will have a place in the front row of history and will play a major role in shaping it. These students have chosen one of the most interesting disciplines in science and one of the greatest catalysts for human development," said Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, the Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and the dean of the faculty.

Market Research Analysts on AI's Impact

Many market research analysts argue that AI has the potential to bring numerous positive changes to society, including increased productivity, improved healthcare, and greater access to education, but we need to adapt now! Those in manually repetitive jobs view artificial intelligence and robots as a disruptive force regarding the future of work and fear job losses.

The conclusion is not yet drawn, but the inclination is that AI will have a more positive than negative impact, creating new vocations, helping solve complex problems, and making our daily lives easier and more convenient.
